About IMFpA

The International Monitor Formosa Plastics Alliance is a unique coalition consisting of three separate organizations, each fighting against Formosa Plastics in different locations: Justice for Formosa Victims in Vietnam, RISE St. James in Louisiana, and San Antonio Bay Estuarine Waterkeeper in Texas. Coming together to combat this multinational corporation, our alliance represents a powerful force united in the pursuit of environmental protection, justice, and community empowerment.

In March 2019, Nancy Bui organized a coalition of Vietnamese Americans who journeyed to Point Comfort, Texas to support Diane Wilson in her citizen Clean Water Act lawsuit against Formosa Plastics for long-standing plastic discharge into Matagorda Bay and surrounding Texas waterways. Sharon Lavigne, who leads the opposition against Formosa Plastics’ proposed 12-billion-dollar plastics facility slated for St. James Parish, Louisiana, also showed up in support, and from there a vital alliance was born. In 2022, the partnership solidified into the International Monitor Formosa Plastics Alliance.
